What to Expect During Construction
A homeowner's guide on how to prepare for construction day.
Congratulations! Getting a new roof is an exciting milestone for your home. But with all the activity that comes with it, it’s good to know what to expect so the process runs smoothly and safely.
At Whirlwind Roofing and Construction, we strive to make every project as seamless and stress-free as possible. Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you prepare:
🔊 Expect Noise (Lots of It)
Roofing is loud. Crews often begin work at daylight and may continue until sundown. Hammering, shingle removal, and equipment noise will be ongoing for a day or two, depending on the size and complexity of your roof.
Tip: If you’re working from home, have pets or children that are sensitive to noise, or simply need quiet time, consider planning to be away during peak work hours.
🛠️ Prepare Your Home Inside
Remove fragile items from shelves and walls. Vibrations from hammering may cause them to fall.
Cover items in your attic with sheets or tarps. Shingle granules, loose nails, or other debris may fall through the gaps or vents.
🌳 Protect Outdoor Spaces
Unlock your gates so we have access to lay tarps around the property and for proper clean-up.
Move patio furniture, grills, potted plants, garden tools, toys, and decor away from the home’s perimeter.
Turn off your sprinklers on the day of installation.
Roofing debris may knock off leaves or blooms. While we take precautions, some minor landscaping impact is possible.
Vehicles (cars, motorcycles, bikes, boats) should be relocated to keep them safe and ensure access to driveways for crews.
🚚 Expect Equipment and Deliveries
A dumpster and/or port-a-potty (if needed) will be placed on your property near the start date.
Trucks will arrive to load and unload materials such as shingles, underlayment, or siding. Clear access to the driveway is essential.
🚧 Keep Children and Pets Safe
Crews will be accessing your backyard and other areas around your home.
For everyone’s safety, keep pets indoors or in the garage and children away from work zones and equipment.
🧲 Debris and Cleanup
We use magnetic rollers to collect stray nails and debris. A freshly mowed lawn makes this more effective.
While we strive for thorough cleanup, a few nails may still remain. Please double-check your driveway and yard before walking barefoot or parking.
⏳ Weather Considerations
While we aim to complete your project on time, weather delays (especially wind and rain) may impact the schedule. Please understand we cannot risk exposing your property to the elements & try to err on the side of caution. We’ll keep you informed every step of the way.
👋 Be a Thoughtful Neighbor
We recommend giving your neighbors a heads-up. Roofing work can be loud and may temporarily impact shared driveways or fencing access.
At Whirlwind Roofing and Construction, we take pride in making roof replacements as professional and painless as possible. We’ll notify you at least 24 hours before your project begins and remain available to answer any questions throughout the process.
Thank you for trusting us with your home. Your complete satisfaction is our top priority!
