Avoid damaging your roof this holiday season with these tips:

  • Never staple Christmas lights to your roof. It voids the manufacturer’s shingle warranty and causes leaks. Instead, use the plastic tabs that slip between the shingles or use gutter hooks.
  • Take care not to lean your ladder against your gutters. Ladders will bend the gutters causing it to sag and retain water.
  • In addition, you can damage your shingles by walking on them. If you are determined to place lights on high peaks on your house, consider hiring a professional.
